In 2000 UNESCO included the island of Lipari among the heritage of humanity to be protected, imposing the two companies that were responsible for extracting the pumice from the volcanic cone of Mount Pilato to cease the activity.Lipari is a island where the inhabitants have a close link with pumice, where lived through family memories, traditions and personal experiences.
